Michaela Amering has worked at the Department of Social Psychiatry of the Medical University of Vienna and at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Social Psychiatry. Her research expertise includes all aspects of recovery from mental illness, and the experience of mental health service users and family members. She is member of several international committees.
